dan allison in pa. In my last semester in cincy I was taking a course called "The Church in the 21st century." The discussion of world events arose and how the U.S.'s involvement in the Middle East affected the Church. The class was populated by 7 working pastors, a Vietnam Veteran, and me. The 7 along with the teacher shared that the U.S. should hunt down the 'bad guys' and wipe 'em out. Then, the Vietnam Vet shared his perspective. Having seen enough bloodshed firsthand, he thinks the we would do better to send aid in any situation instead of drop bombs.
The teacher more or less said, "That's all well and good, and I can respect that opinion, but I think that's an immature view."
that greg boyd is amazing. really smart. SO well read. did a great job at crossroads. set on the kit and played zeppelin (i mean, busting out into that in a church when you have a PhD just demands some respect). sang with us backup singers at the end of the last service b/c he loved the song. he's pretty neat.
the dude's coming to speak at crossroads for 8 wednesday nights in sept/oct. about the kingdom of God, which i'm very interested to hear about after reading willard's divine conspiracy a couple years ago.
